  1. I'm buying my first laptop EVER.... I see that Dell has a 40% discount on select models. I'm wonderinf if this is A GOOD DEAL or can I get a better deal?

Plesae give your opinions as soon as possible. I think the coupon code expires soom. I'll be using the laptop to edit DVD-qualitiy video captures, play divx movies and burn a few DVDs. I don't need it for photoshop or complex spreadsheet stuff.

God damn that's a hot laptop. And it would be literally too with all that hardware in it. As for the price it's hard to say, gaming laptops like that always seem so expensive. I'd probably bite if it were sub-$1800 for sure. You've gotta believe that thing won't last long on battery power so if you have to leave it plugged in all the time to game and all that why not get a desktop for cheaper?

That's not a bad price. I'm sure it's probably pretty heavy. One thing that sticks out is the RAM only 512MB dual channel. If I had to guess, I'd say you'll only have 2 memory slots, which means if you decide to upgrade to 1GB in the future you'll have to pull ou the 512 that's already in there, if the price difference isn't huge, I'd go for at least 1GB dual channel. Although on the other hand, the upgrade may cost more than buying two 512MB chips online. It will probably have decent battery life, but the battery probably weighs quite a bit.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

I just bought the 600m from Dell. It has a 1.8 ghz processor (pentium M), 512 RAM Dual channel, 64 Meg ATI graphics... the whole shooting match. I got it for only $800.00. I truly believe XPS machines are way overpriced.
