I'm using a JVC DR-M10 for OTA and VHS captures to NTSC DVD video. I have an NTSC VHS tape that I want to put on DVD and send to someone in England.

If I'm not mistaken England uses PAL and I don't think my recorder will record in PAL. What is the best way to convert an NTSC video recorded on my JVC to PAL for someone in England?

    Thanks.

I think the vast majority of DVD players in U.K. are able to play NTSC discs as is. I have sent several NTSC discs to various people in U.K. and have had no complaints about being unable to play them.

Thanks for the response, maybe I shouldn't bother with trying to convert.

I'd be interested to hear others experiences as well.

piano632 is correct. Every DVD player i've owned has played NTSC, I think having a non NTSC compatible TV is more of a problem.

I think most of recent DVD players can do the conversion NTSC <-> PAL on the fly. The player will detect automatically if the video signal is NTSC or PAL and will ouput the right signal to your TV as defined in the configuration of the DVD player.

  6. Yes... Do not worry about it. It is normal in EU that DVD players can play region free NTSC DVDs on PAL TV and also most of the TVs can display NTSC signal as well. Problem with formats is only in US market where for some reasons they think that NTSC support is enough

ALL European DVD players will play NTSC. Europe is Region 2 and uses PAL, Japan is Region 2 but uses NTSC so a Region 2 DVD player must be able to play both.
