I apologize if this has been asked before. I'm new to Premier and I'm having some trouble editing a DVD in the program. I didn't know how to load vob files into it (if this is even possible?) so I "de-authored" my DVD back into a MPG-2 file. But that didn't seem to work either so I compressed the MPG-2 file into a Xvid .avi file using Auto Gordian Knot. I could open this file, but when I tried to add the file to my project clipboard Premier gave me an error message and closed the program. How am I to go about loading a DVD movie into Premier for editing purposes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SoCalMK,
What version of Adobe Premier do you have? Premier 6.0 will not accept Mpeg files but 6.5 will.
Also Premier will not accept Xvid or DivX4 or above, but will accept DivX3 low or fast motion.

Thanks for your reply. I tried version 7.0 and it still won't take MPG-2 files. The funny thing though is that it now will take the Xvid .avi files that version 6.0 was previously crashing with. Any thoughts????

Thank you edDV. I was wondering though, then why was version 7.0 accepting the Xvid .avi files? Can I work with these in this version of Premier?

I downloaded the trial version of mainconcept's MPG-2 plugin but I'm still having some trouble. When I try to import my MPG-2 file, it does the same thing as before. It brings up the "Importing File" progression bar but the bar does not progress and it stays there forever; the file never loads. Any help would really be appreciated.

I've never installed it but I used it once and it did seem to perform as billed.

Thanks edDV, I got it to work. But I noticed that Premier doesn't seem to accept .mpg files with AC-3 audio. Is there a separate plugin for AC-3?

i don't thiink so, you can convert the ac3 audio to wav with belight or goldwave. and demultiplex the mpg to video and audio with tmpgenc->file->mpeg tools and just import the video.
or frameserve...but you have to convert the audio to wav also

Thanks Baldrick. Your link was most helpful. I think framserving is the best way to go for my project.
