I have some VCD format (mpeg1) video I want to burn to disc. I would like to put them all on 1 DVD instead of several VCD's.

Will I lose quality reencoding them to DVD format (mpeg2)?

    Thanks

Yes, you will lose quality everytime you do reencoding.

The easiest was in your case is:

    - Get the MPEG1 files from your VCDs using VCDGear, you would have to rename each extracted file to .MOV I suppose
    http://www.vcdgear.com/index.html

    - Use TOAST (Video Tab) to make a DVD from the files.

More experienced users might want to try ffmpegX for reencoding.

    Cheers

If you have a little experience with all this video stuff, there is also a way to put your VCD spec video onto a DVD without re-encoding. It's a pain, not recommended for beginners, and only works on some DVD players. YMMV

My fault for not being clear. The mpeg1 videos I have are already on my hard drive. I know how to rip/burn VCD/DVD.

I'm just wondering if I will lose quality going from mpeg1 to mpeg2.

    thanks for the help

I do have a "little" experience with video. Is there a guide for putting VCD spec video on a DVD?

    Thanks again

    MPEG1 versus MPEG2:

Please look around this site. Video and sound must be reencoded:

Please read the link I supplied. Video does NOT have to be reencoded simply for it to go on a DVD.
