    With the rush to transfer vhs to dvd, how does this expensive piece of kit and its like fit into the equation?

    Can it be used to get vhs to HD DVD quality when that arrives?

    From its specifications sheet and the diagram below, it is a combination analog to digital converter, standards converter ( accepts NTSC, PAL, SECAM and outputs analog or HD ), switch box, etc.

    It does not appear to improve image quality so you end up with a VHS quality signal that plays and fits a HD screen.
