okay.. i'm trying to split a dvd in to 2 dvd's..

my dvd starts off with this menu where you can select which volume you'd like to view:

i would like to bypass this menu and have it start off at one of these 2 menu's instead.

and have it play the video it would normally play. i want to this because transcoding it makes the video quality look pretty bad because there is a lot of action throughout.

if anyone knows how to do this, i would really appreciate your help.

  2. Hi-

I've done this before. It's pretty easy, actually. Open the DVD in PGCEdit. Use its Trace function to trace to the menu for the first movie. Hit the Macro, "Jump To PGC upon DVD insert". Test it out by running the Trace again, and then Save it. Test it in a software DVD player. If it tests out OK, then open the DVD in VobBlanker, and Blank out the one you don't want. Save that, and then you'll have one of the movies, with the menu for that movie. Then, replace the IFOs back into the original (PGCEdit saves them automatically) and then do the same thing for the other movie. Here's a guide for the "Jump To PGC upon DVD insert" macro:

I guess you already know how to use VobBlanker to blank out stuff.

  3. I would try dvd shrink. Hopefully you're familiar with it. I'm guessing it will show two tittles and menus and extras. On one of tittles click still image. This should allow you to squeeze the entire dvd on to one disc. and do vice versa for the other tittle. Should work. You won't be able to play one of the titles on each disc because they are still images. But menus and everything else should work. Good luck

I would create a simple black bitmap with 'Please see other disk for this function' written on it. Use that in DVD shrink instead of still images (takes up less space).

Otherwise, vobblanker or dvd remake will do it. I have never been able to use vobblanker's output though. Once processed, nothing will read it.

  5. DVDFab is good for this as well. I just play the DVD in PowerDVD or something similar and note the chapter points, then split the DVD using DVDFab at the chapter point I want.

Bnbhoha suggested DVD Shrink, which also should work. Just follow what he said.

Is there a specific size of the bitmap you need for that? I've been wanting to make my own but wasn't sure about the size I need.

  7. I used a Jpeg picture of some supermodel and it worked. I don't think the size really matter and it will just do a shrink to fit on the screen for the still image picture

DVD Shrink will resize, but if you want to have control over the quality, either use the photoshop templates to create it for your format (720 x 576 for PAL, 720 x 480 for NTSC - don't forget to have the correct pixel aspect ratio), or create one at 720 x 540, which is format independent as the resize up for PAL or down for NTSC keeps a correct PAR
