I'm trying to modify a DVD menu by loading it into VirtualDub and masking with a logo filter.
Saving it with Lagareth, Huffy or Uncompressed then converting back to DVD using FAVC.
I wanted to use a lossless method to get the best input for FAVC.
The image of Homer in the final DVD looks squished down (shorter and fatter) - screenshots from TV attached.

From GSpot, the original and final DVD video is SAR 1.5 PAR .889 DAR 1.333
The AVI is SAR 1.5 PAR 1.00 DAR 1.5

I tried using Mpeg4Modifier on the AVI - it won't accept it.

  2. It doesn't matter what the AVI 's AR is, avisynth and vdub both assume square pixel.

It's up to your editor or authoring application to put the AR flag in when making a DVD. (In this case 4:3)

I haven't used FAVC in a few years, but I suspect it's not passing the flag through, or at least for that menu portion.

Also , there are better ways to replace just the menu - there are guides on this site; I suspect FAVC will re-encode everything => quality loss

If you are re-encoding everything, AVStoDVD is a better program and should pass the flag through

I don't was to replace the menu as such.
I want the animated figure to use in my own menu - in my own video.

Avstodvd can convert the avi to mpg like FAVC. Try it.

Or you could just export the avi as a 4:3 resolution like 640x480 and then encode it as 720x480 with 4:3.

The same result as FAVC using the 720x480 AVI.

That worked with both AvstoDVD and FAVC.
    Thank you.
