Hoping somneone can shed some light on a problem i have.
If i burn a disc, take it out and put it back in, then click my computer and try to browse the contents of the newly burnt disc, either an empty folder appears, an error message comes up saying windows is unable to read the disc or it just sits there spinning up and down with the hourglass mouse icon.
This happens on my D:\ dvd writer and my E:\ cd writer.
Also, if i then take that disc and pop it into my dvd player, hifi system, it will play. Now, sometimes if it is video i have burnt, now and again it will go all blocky and gives off high pitched noises, as if the data is corrupt. Also, it has managed to burn an audio disc with nothing on.
So many problems.
Im using a SATA HDD with my D and E on sec master/slave. Have changed ide cables etc but to no avail.
I have daemon tools installed, but have taken that out but still no change.
Also have had starforce protected games installed, and deleted thoose as i was told this may be my problem, but once again, no change.
Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo with latest bios and drivers installed. A gig of memory, athlon XP2600+, win XP SP2.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Have you tried pulling your IDE Controllers from my computer and restarting so that they ReID. If not try that. Also remove daemontools while you do that. I had lost of problems with virtual drive software and proper ID of disk. Make sure you don't have ANYDVD installed either.

Thanks for the reply.
Uninstalled d-tools, and deleted pri, sec ide and nvidia nforce MCP2 ide controllers.
Still no dice.
Really annoying me now. -
What burning products do you have installed ?
If you have nero , and ezycdrecord (not sure of the name) , the two hate each other , and you should remove ezycdrecord . I would most likely also remove all other known burning products and just have bero instead .
There is also a patch file for nero , but its for the latest version .
This problem of not displaying content turned up lately on a friends pc , and as soon as I saw that both nero and the other where on the pc , I couldnt stop laughing , it was too obvious that they installed nero after , because they would have got the error box saying it dont like the other and to unistall it prior to installing nero .
As for the break up blockiness of video , the first thing to do would be to slow down your burning habits , the slower the better the fixation rate is , the higher , and you can expect trouble .
Now comes the source , the actual video source that is .
If it plays fine on the pc , try changing the media brand you use , I have a very strict diet on which my burners only see the tdk brand as its never let me down .
There may be tools available on this site that can confirm the video source as being good or having some problems , but I cant recall everything .
It could come down to the software that dose your video transcoding , it may have simply decide to "chuck a wobbly" at you with out you knowing about it , this to should be uninstalled and reinstalled just to make sure its registry hooks have been reset , these things do have a habit of forgeting what it is there supposed to be doing .
Take for instance nero , from day one dot , its had its fair share of problems , like in version 5.? , installed fine , but forgot to hookup the exe's to the shortcuts , i asked nero and they never reported back a sollution . And in nero reencode version 6.6 , there has been many complaints about showtimes inabililty to dsiplay the video , yet plays the audio , I seem to thing the patch has alot to do with fixing these problems .
If all still fails , I would say it has nothing to do with cables or drives , as it is burning the discs , and you are not recieving any errors afterwards , just a problem with seeing the contents , or that useless merry go round rubbish , yes , thats poped its ugly head up here on occasion (2 in the last year) .
My best guess is media related issue , or you have installed some software that has either taken control of some registry items in shouldnt have in the first place , or overwitten the permissions in the registry , locking out explorer from seeing the burnt content , that one is rather nasty , and is more related to a piece of spyware having gotten itself into you pc .
I'll pop over to ms and see what I can find on registry details for explorer and track down those related to xp and cd content showing -
Hows this for a record , I remembered what that was ...
Its you aspi layer gone nutts .
Choose the burning program you want to keep (preferably nero) .
Delete all .
Download and install forceaspi (this corrects the registry info)
Install nero (or other) .
Thats the aspi fix , and you should be able to see the contents again .
And it should fix those gitter problems you have had in you video playback
Just do a search for forceaspi -
Thanks for the reply, but no go.
I downloaded forceaspi, and forstly tried to dump my existing aspi. The bat file reported i had none installed.
So, i used the installaspi bat file, and rebooted to find i know have the proper aspi layers installed.
However, i tried earlier discs burnt, and just burnt another disc, but still have the same problem.
Its driving me nuts!

You're gonna LOVE THIS!!! I found 'the fix' ... and it's surprisingly simple. I kept getting 'fixation errors' intermittently. Changed drive layouts, uninstalled software, reinstalled, etc..
Still, I would get these errors intermittently. And sometimes, one right after another.
You will not believe this. But, next time you get a fixation error, check which FOLDER in Windows Explorer is highlighted. Guaranteed ... it's the FOLDER you're burning to CD or DVD. For whatever reason, Nero (in my case) will NOT complete the cd/dvd if the source folder is being accessed by Windows Explorer.
I happened to notice this 'goofy' event and 'suspected' it may be the problem to fixation errors. Sure enough, I would delete something else and the file I was about to burn was suddenly highlighted in Windows Explorer. EVERY TIME that FOLDER was highlighted, I would get a fixation error. EVERY TIME I highlighted a DIFFERENT
FOLDER, the disk would burn perfectly.
Again, I know this sounds TOO simple to be the problem. Remember, next time you get a fixation error, before doing anything else, check Windows Explorer and see what FOLDER is highlighted. I would guess the same would be true for those who use "My Computer" rather than Windows Explorer.
After you've discovered I'm right, please pass on the information to others who are having the same problem. I have a few hundred wasted cd's from 'rediculous' issues such as this. Hate to see anyone else have continued headaches.
Enjoy ...
