  1. Hope someone else has fixed this before.

Whenever I play a DVD either from a DVD-Rom drive or from the hard drive the DVDs look "washed out" displaying very little color.

I try playing with PowerDVD, Windvd, Media player classic, WMP 10 and get the same result with all of them.

I tried to do a screen capture using Windvd but the capture looks perfect, yet the video looks light. Wish I could describe it better.

Anyway, would be grateful if anyone knows how I can fix this. I tried searching the forum and found someone else who posted a similar problem but no solution.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. I think Nvidia had problems with overlay for a while. If you have a Nvidia graphics card you should look for newer drivers.

Also note that computer monitors have very different gamma curves than televisions. DVDs usually look dark and low contrast on computers -- unless the player you are using is brightening up the picture.

  3. Junkmalle,

Thanks for your suggestion. I just updated to the latest NVIDIA driver (good idea!) but still have the same problem.

The video looks sort of like a "negative" but not quite. Very light with very little colors.

I also noticed just after receiving an wmv file in an email attachment that I have the same problem there.

It is probably some sort of codec problem but I don't know how to trace it down.

    Thanks!

  4. Check the video controls (via Control Panel). There are usually contrast/brightness/color controls for video overlays there. You could even try turning video overlay off.

  5. That did it.... well sort of!

I changed the settings, then played a video- same problem.

    I then restored defaults---PRESTO!

    Computers!!!!

But thanks a ton for your help! That was getting aggravating.
