  1. Hello,

My car has been broken into several times now, so I went out and bought a samsung cctv system. What I would like to be able to do is record the output to my pc, and have the video recycle every 24hrs. The cctv monitor has video out (for a VCR), and it is connected to my ATI AIW 9600XT. So I can view the video on my pc, I just need to find a way to capture it for 24hrs, delete the file, and continue capturing. I have tried using windows media encoder, but I'm not sure if it is possible to automatically recycle the video. I have 2 300GB Maxtors in RAID 0 for storage. I would really appreciate it if anyone who has done something similar could give me some advice. Is there a program that will do this, or any special settings or encoding for WME9? Thanks.

This is in no way an endorsement of any of these products, nor a recommendation of any particular software. It is simply the result of indiscriminant googling.

  3. guns1inger,

Thanks, I found those and similar apps with google as well. They do all cost money however, which I am a little short of at the moment. A good freeware app, or possible windows media encoder fix, would be alot more useful. I already have all of the neccessary hardware, and most apps want to use proprietary hardware w/ their software. However, if someone has a good recommendation for an app that I have to pay for that can use my existing setup I will definitely consider it. Thanks.

I just looked at spec/review on your ati 9600xt and it shoud do what you want with what you have. Says it has a schedular.

just schedule succeding captures with 1 or 2 minute interval between to give the system time to save the file

Myself I use a Compro VideoMate Live (usb hardware encoder with tv tuner). I use 352x240 at 1 mb/s which gives me a playback quality simular to a vhs tape when burned to dvd and watched on 27" tv

I would suggest captureing the 24 hr period in segments that can easily be burned to dvd if something shows up, also run it thru a vcr with the time being display for easy referance. The scheduling software may let you set each capture to repeat daily so you have an ongoing capture yet can view/delete completed clips

  5. It could be done using the timeshifting feature of the AIW - it will automatically wrap around. Even better, the motion detection feature might work when limiting the maximum file size (the date of each recording should indicate the time).
