    Hello, just a quick question...

Using TMPGEnc I try to convert an AVI to a DVD NTSC. I get an MPG 2 in the end and wonder if this will work in standard dvd players? I usually just use WinAvi but it often skews the sound thus making the dvd useless, however it provides to proper VOB files and Nero does the rest. I wanted to test out the MPEG 2 but the file size is too lare therefore I would like to know if you can split the output in TMP or if i'm even getting the right files and such, since TMP doesnt mess up the audio or anything. Thanks alot.

    Hi,

Once you get your completed mpg2 file load it into your authoring program. Do what you want to it and make your dvd on the harddrive. Then if its too large open dvd shrink and compress it so you can make it fit (you will need double the space for this - enough for the output from your authoring program and then 4.5gb extra - or whatever the project size is - from dvdshrink).

Or your better bet would be to recapture it to a lowerbitrate so it will fit in the firstplace. If its not a capture reencode it so it will be at a lower bitrate.

Right, but the thing is it fits the DVD fine, but the max size of 1 file is about 2GB... I wanna just split that 1 file into 2 or 3 pieces so each piece is about 1.2GB like your avg dvd files, know what I mean? How can I do that? And what authoring program should I use? NeroVision good?

    Hi,

Oh you want to make each vob 1gb????? Um not sure. How did you author it?

    Kevin

EDIT - Dvddecrypter lets you rip dvds in 1gb chunks. you could burn it. delete the original files. Then rerip it to 1gb chunks. Then reburn it so its in proper format. Thats the long way around.

More or less, here let me clarify... Ummm, first I want that MPG to be a VOB file (or files, preferably each under 1.8gb). That I do by taking the mpg and authoring it right? I'm a lil confused, so if you could just answer that and maybe fill in any gaps you can think, i'd appreaciate it, thanks alot.

    Hi,

Ok I think most authoring programs take the mpg file and make the vob files into 1gb chunks for you. I'm not sure if you can manually change that setting for authoring.

Put it this way - the dvds I've made with tda and ulead dvd movie factory have worked very well in a different dvd players. I assume they use the standard dvd layout with proper file sizes.

Try it out yourself and you can delete the video_ts folder aftewards if its not to your liking.

Unless your DVD player plays raw MPEGs, you'll need to author - this turns the MPEG file into IFO, BUP and VOB files and automatically splits the VOBs into 1GB chunks.
    If in doubt, Google it.
