Hi, I have a small issue... just wanted to know the reason.. I use shrink DVD or DVD decrypter and then I burn using Nero... I use different kind of DVD+R's and DVD-R's.. but some times I burn a movie play it in my ILO or APEX dvd and my Sony DVD will not play it. What I dont understand is that I burn another movie play it in my Apex and ILO.. and My Sony DVD will play it also... Why the other movie cant be play in my Sony if I am using the same burning procedure and the same DVD+R BRAND.
Just Wondering any info will be very helpfull..
Thanks.

If you use the exact same burning procedure then maybe you have a few bad discs in your spindle. You always come across a bad disc sooner or later.

It's probably your choice of media. My dad's Sony is very picky about the media I use, regardless of +R/-R; TY, Maxell, and Ritek work well, but Princo, CMC, etc never have. Keep in mind that even though you may buy a pack of 5/10/25/50 it may not be the same media code, especially if it's been a while between picking up the pack.
It may just be the players I use, but whenever I use Nero to burn, I have to check the option that says "Force Video Compatibility Mode (Required for X-Box)". If you're not using that, you may have problems. Also, if your backing up to an ISO from Shrink, some here will say you'll get better results than if you create AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to burn with Nero. I'm not sure how Shrink does it, but maybe you're shrinking below the minimum bitrate a Sony will play, but the Apex and ILO don't care. -
well I have tried several brands several dvd's.. and the same problem with the same movies... I even tried it in another DVD from a friend of mine and the same thing happen.. and only on several movies.. I am guessing that its something regarding the codec that the dvd is made of.. but.. I use exactly the same procedure.. I didnt know about the force video capability I am going to try that.. lets see what happens. but if anybody had a same problem.. please let me know.. Thanks.

If you use DVD+R,try changing the booktype to DVD-ROM with Nero, its more compatible with DVD Players. Are you burning at a slow speed eg 4x,if you burn too fast some players have problems reading the DVD you made. Its best to always use DVDDecrypter for ripping, its removes recent copy protection and only use DVDShrink for recoding.DVDFab Decrypter is good for ripping as well as it also removes recent copy protection.
You could also try burning with DVDDecrypter by turning your VIDEO_TS folder contents into an ISO using IMGTools Classic.~Luke~ -
How about trying a different burning app. For the longest time I had to to use nero with my sanyo 360 and stomp recordnow for my apex 1200. Once I updated recordnow I no longer needed to use nero except for my ps2. Cant hurt to try.

I did tried the new Roxio version and its doing the same.. one thing that I did not mention was that most of the movies that cant be played on my Sony DVD are downloaded movies and they are .avi I used VSO DivxtoDVD to convert them to DVD format. but still only several avi files that I burn to DVD are the ones giving me problems. I do burn all my movies at 4x speed.
what can it be.. it might be the program that I use to convert avi to dvd? I am going to find something similar and try to convert avi to dvd with another application to see if that was the problem.
any suggestions. Thanks. -
I always blame Sony DVD players....especially the older ones....CRAPPY at playing most things "recordable"...

Finally, I found the problem.. it was here in the forum since the beginning.... the avi files that I transfer or convert to DVD format are PAL.. I didnt noticed that until I checked the info on them. so just by converting those avi files to NTSC fixed the problem.. Thanks for the help guys.
Keep on burning.
