I am using a TV capture card to take video from an S-video VCR. The problem is that no matter what program I use to capture video, every time I grab it at anyhitng higher than 320x240, I loose massive amounts of frames..almost as much as I capture. So much so that the final video looks VERY choppy. Is there a way to capture video at higher resolutions without loosing frames like this?

Make sure your drive(s) is(are) operating in DMA mode, not PIO:
Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings -> Transfer Mode -> DMA if available.
Also try closing down all the programs in the System Tray (the little icons next to the time on the Start bar). -
A P4 2.4 GHz machine should have no trouble.
ID your tuner, Hard Drives, capture program(s) and capture format(s). -
In order not to waste your time and mine re-inventing the wheel, please describe which aspects of the very extensive sticky entitled "why does my pc drop frames" you have already investigated and eliminated as possible causes of the problem.
