  1. Hi all,

I suffered a hard drive failure some time ago, losing a number of WMV and MPEG's I had on it. Using Norton Ghost I managed to get in and copy the files over to a safe drive, but when I come to open them in Windows none of them play. GSpot can't detect the codec used either. Similarly I can't open any of the photographs or images from the same process.

If anybody knows of a way to recover these corrupt files please let me know

There's other apps for that, numerous ones. If you Google file recovery the first one that pops up is PC Inspector, I've had luck with that one and it's free.

There's other alternatives such as a professional service but that's mucho $.

I've had similar issues recovering files from a corrupt drive. In the end, I lost all of the files because they wouldn't play, even though the software found and restored them all.

I'm having the same problem, my archive drive started developing bad sectors, most of my .mpg files are unplayable. I can open it in WMP but the video is black and there's no sound, the run time is at 50 hours.
This problem is similar to the corrupt mp3s found on p2p, if that can be fixed, surely this can too.
