The best is to use several seperate programs to encode the audio and the video, then author and burn the DVD. It takes a fair amount of study and experiment to get everything working and set up properly.

The easy way is a program like VSO DivxToDVD. I would try it first and if you are satisfied with the results, you're done.

  5. I tried that way 1st redwudz...but when I went to burn it said I was missing VSOCopytoDVD to burn it (not autorized to use it)....maybe because I exited the program before I tried to burn it?

  6. I've found for the best results use DIKO or filmmachine with CCE. Best for the fastest/easiest results WINAvi or DVDSanta would be the best.

I just have VSO DivxToDVD save the authored DVD file to my harddrive, ready to burn to DVD. You don't need CopytoDVD. (It's a pay program) I use Nero for burning and select 'DVD-Video', then take the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder that VSO created and drop them into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero. Then burn. If you need a free DVD burner, then burnatonce or Deepburner will also work.

I've used DIKO, DVD Santa and The Film Machine and found the VSO program worked on files that they had problems with. Quality depends on your original AVI file. All of the AVIs I've converted this way look good and play perfectly on my settop DVD players. It's also very handy for XVID PAL to NTSC DVD conversions because it makes it mostly automatic.

If I have a high quality DV AVI, then I usually encode it with TMPGEnc encoder, convert the audio to AC3 and author it with TMPGEnc DVD Author. That takes time and some fine tuning for the best quality. But for the typical DIVX or XVID video, the VSO program works fine.

  8. Beta 2 of svcd2dvd also does this very nicely. Simple to do. Load the avi file set chapter points and menu if required. Hit process and wait till its finished.

You mean there was no audio on the burned DVD? I assume you know there is no sound file in the AUDIO_TS folder of a DVD. The audio is muxed into the video files. The folder is for future undefined use.

On the other hand, if there was no audio on the burned DVD, haven't had that happen. Most of the XVID files I work with have MP3 audio, some with MP3 VBR audio which can cause problems with many conversion and encoder programs.

At least in my experience if there is no audio coming out of VSO, there wasn't any going in or it's a type of audio VSO doesn't recognize. VSO, and truthfully the other All-in-One converters handle audio in a similar way so if one won't work, the others may act the same way. Check the Operation log on the VSO program, you should see the audio file shown there.

For MP3 VBR and a few other less common audio formats, I save it out as a WAV and use that with the encoder programs. You can also convert it to AC3 audio with a program like ffmpegGUI. In that case, I don't use a All-in-0ne converter.

  11. Yes I meant on the burned DVD...I am not sure why...because after DIVXtoDVD made the Video_TS folder...it had VOB files and VTS files...usually works fine...
What would you suggest I burn with...I usually use IMGTool Burn...
    Thanks

Edit: I got it to work...I just checked CopytoDVD when DivxtoDVD was done...and it worked!
Thanks for all the info and suggestions!
