  1. I had this problem when I first started using DVDshrink. I would copy straight to disk first(succesfully copying the disk) then I would try and copy again off the hdd. I would watch the disk that I copied off the hdd but it would mess up a couple mins into the film. Now I figured out how to copy the disk directly to hdd and came up with the same type of problem. The first copy I made from the hdd would be successful, but when I would go to copy it again it would come up with a write error. Now if I recopy the information from the copied disk or the hdd then it would be a good copy but who wants to have to go through the encoding process again I just want to be able to burn straight to the hdd it just saves more time. Hope this isn't confusing any advice I would greatly appreciate it. TY

I'm using Nero to burn the disk

  2. Your explanation is very confusing to me !

Please explain again what you are trying to do in more detail and perhaps list your steps in a logical order so we can understand what you are doing, maybe then we can help you.

I think I get it ... only because I suffered a similar problem - the first time I powered up my PC, I could burn anything fine. Every time I'd go to make a 2nd or subsequent burns, I'd get coasters. Reboot the PC and the first one after that would be fine, then crapola again. Turned out to be either a firmware or power problem (I can't remember which now ) with my burner.

Here's something to try - Output to an ISO file and use DVDDecrypter (free) to burn. This ISO will sit on your hard drive and you should be able to make as many copies as you want from it. This will also rule Nero out of the equation.

Burn one copy, then try to burn a 2nd. See if the same behaviour exists. If so, reboot your PC, load up the exact same ISO and try burning it. Then try burning it again. I'd be interested to see if each "first" burn after powering up your machine results in a good copy or not.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. O.K. I knew that would be confusing.

Ok these are the steps that I take to get a successful DVD using DVD shrink

method 1: Use dvd shrink to burn DVD straight to DVDR using nero program through dvd shrink (hope that makes sense)

method 2: step 1. Use dvd shrink to burn DVD to HDD

step 2. open Nero(not through dvd shrink) and burn from the HDD to DVDR

method 3. open temp file of encoded DVD to burn to DVDR using DVD shrink

method 4. open encoded DVDR to make another copy using DVD shrink

Ok now for the unsuccessful copies I make using just Nero

method 1. Use Nero to burn encoded temp file made by DVD shrink to DVDR
result: DVD skips or stops playing in the middle of the video

method 2. Use Nero to burn another copy of DVD from the HDD(made by dvd shrink)
    Result: write error

I'm hoping this makes sense if not just explain what u don't understand TY

Yes, I would go along with what Jimmalenko is saying, sounds to me like Nero is probably causing your problems.

Try DVDdecrypter and stick with that, it is faultless for me.
It seems that many peolple on here have problems with Nero.

You may not want to hear this, but based on everything you have posted, I suspect your issue may have more to do with one of the following:

-Lousy media, or media that your burner does not like, or that your DVD player does not like. Most lousy media is "marginal," which means that one burn may succeed, or seem to be fine, and then the next one will be pixellated, or choppy video, or cause errors to occur during the burning process that lock up the software. You seem to be focusing on the software, which is easy to do, but you are failing to realize that if the media is substandard, one burn will work and the next may not, and so on.

-DMA mode or firmware issues (these cause a lot of burning errors and similar problems).

The two most reliable burning software programs out there seem to be Nero and DVDDecrypter. And, as I understand it, Nero Burning Rom is using the same burning engine regardless of whather you use DVDShrink to automatically start it up, or whether you open Nero Burning Rom separately in order to burn (or if you use one of the other Nero components to start it up, such as Nerovision Express, or the Nero Wizard, etc.) It is still using the same software, with no differences. So, if you have success using Shrink to open Nero on attempt A, but it fails when you open Nero yourself on attempt B, I would suggest the problem is NOT with Nero.

What kind of media are you using?
