  1. all,

i have 20 or so old vhs tapes that i would like to convert to dvd.

    i have 2 choices i think:

[1] a jvc svhs with built in tbc/dnr
    or
[2] separate pieces of equipment (say datavideo-1000) + other bits & bobs.

the problem is that i'm in the UK and the jvc players are near impossible to find.

so, should i go to the trouble of getting the jvc from usa or just stick to the separates route?

also, if anyone knows of places in the UK to get the equipment, please stick on the email address.

    ta

Guess that depends on the shape tapes are in, if they are pretty good like mine are...... if given the choice I'd go with the VCR. The VCR will do a lot more than the TBC as far as removing noise, that's been my experience so far.

I was in your shoes not too long ago. Started by getting a JVC, then realized that some tapes needed the full frame tbc...without it was dropping frames like nuts...so I then got a TBC-1000. I guess I spent 2x's as much as I wanted in the end, but I pretty much had to. The high-end jvc svhs players are great by the way.
