  1. My friend keeps going on about how quick Win Avi is , at the moment I use avi2svcd - if its so quick does that mean poor quality ?

    I thought WinAVI was crap.
    As an MPEG encoder, not very good.
    And then the ability to use some rather unusual files (shockwave, flash, one of those) really just sucked. I found it to also ignore settings you gave it.

    Quick means nothing. It just means "quick". Although, yes, it CAN often results in "rushed" quality.

    If it's AVI to DVD conversions that you're after, I'd recommend first and foremost the manual way. Failing this, divxtoDVD seems to be the best of the on-click no-brainers that I've played with so far.
