Depends on your preference. I prefer XviD.

Notice that Xvid is DivX spelled backwords

for a codec comparison check here www.doom9.org
and the winner is xvid. xvid appears to retain more detail and is faster.

  9. The question as to whether Xvid or Divx is better I think is ultimately in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I think they're pretty much the same but it seems that people prefer Xvid because its open source and free.

I prefer XviD due to the results of tests I've done for my own benefit. It works FOR ME
    If in doubt, Google it.

Nope. Waheed means "Unique" in Arabic. Fareed is of Hindi origin meaning Unique. Any further discussion, please PM instead of posting in this topic.

Back to the topic, the advantage of xvid is that it is free. Hence, xvid is open source while divx is not. both divx and xvid are based on mpeg4.

Some people find that the xvid codec tends to offer better quality than divx. (dont quote me on this, just what ive read from elsewhere)

  12. My personal choice is DivX because it's less problematic for my players

  13. Haven't created either, but of the ones I have seen, the Xvids were of strikingly better quality. Could mean the progs are better or the users are more finicky. Could mean Xvid delivers better quality.

XviD is a continuation of Project Mayo and aims to develop a high quality open-source MPEG-4 codec. As you may already know, XviD comes from the same open-source project that was the basis for DivX 4.x/5.x, but instead of going all commercial, XviD remains open-source. The quality of the codec is extremely good, and encoding speed is very fast as well, so it is at least worth a try
