  1. I'm leaving town for a week and was wondering if it's possible to rip a couple DVD's to my hard drive and watch them without having to bring the DVD with me. It would be so much nicer to not have to worry about thrashing my discs. Is there a way to do that?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Use DVDdecrypter rip the entire DVD VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive. Each DVD-9 is around 9 gigs. Then play with your favorite DVD player.

    Hi hiwatt2.5

Yes, there is. There is a Doom9 guide titled DVD Playback from your Harddisk which describes just what you want.

    Thanks.

  4. I do this all the time for my b-trips... because on a plane with the DVD drive in my laptop the main battery is exhausted just right before the end of the movie. W/o the DVD drive I can add a second battery and I can watch 2 movies.

I rip an ISO file with DVDdecrypter, remove additional material with DVDShrink and store the ISO file on an external USB2 drive. When I go on a b-trip - normally on very short notice - I copy the ISO files over to my Laptop's HD and then watch the ISO files with the VLC player.

Normally I take 4-5 movies with me (~20GB) and that keeps me happy.

Easiest way IMO would be to rip with dvd decrypter in file mode and rip only the main movie (inlcuding IFO files). You can then watch the dvd using your software player (PowerDVD, MPC etc..) and save space without ripping any extras.

Without knowing your computer specs, theres no way of knowing the capacity of your hard drive.
