I must say this capture card/tuner just does a wonderful job. i have a very big eye for detail, everyone tells me so. VHS tapes, played from a JVC SVHS consumer VCR, even noisy ones, combined with a TBC( prime image hr600 II ), and this capture card, has yielded some pretty impressive results. i tried direct AVI capture using graphedit, cleaning the avi with virtualdub, and then software compression to 9 Mb/sec two pass VBR using tmpgenc, and compred it side by side on my bigscreen TV, and there is little or no difference at all when compared to the hardware compressed DVD thorugh the ati 550 pro chipat 8 Mb/sec using power cinema, the bundled software. it is a low down dirty shame that ATI bundles such shitty software with this card( the software has little or no options. Why in the hell cant they make MMC work with it?
i realize some of my results are because i use good hardware before the capture card... but ive owned a haupaugge PVR-350 using the same hardware setup, and the ati card is hands down better.
ohhh, one more thing.. for those of you transferring laserdiscs, i have learned over th elast 6 months that laserdisc players very GREATLY in quality.. using the lowest end pioneer laserdisc player combined with my TBC still didnt yield as good a result as using one of there highest end lasedisc players by itself without the TBC. in fact i would say that the TBC in the laserdisc player that i use now for DVD transfers is verybit as good as the prime image which originallty retailed for like $1000( i found mine on ebay for $80). for those of you transfering laserdiscs to DVD, the model number is the Pioneer CLD-D704

A penny saved is a waste of time. One in the hand is only worth 0.5 in the bush. A stitch in time saves nothing.
