Ok just out of curiousity when using DVD shrink to compress a movie whne it does it automatically and the movie compression says it is like 50.1% how good is the quality will it pixelate alot or not. Also I know that 100% is the best but how low could you go before really seeing alot of video quality lost I mean at like 80% I dont notice at all just wondering at like 50% would it be horrible and intolerable or not?

  2. You can always experiment on a DVD-RW at different settings and see how it looks to you.
I find the quality at 60% (ie. 40% reduction) still looks acceptable to me on a 27 inch TV.

    Try it yourself

The quality varies greatly depending on your playback devices as well as the bitrate used in the original DVD encode, to name just two factors. It is almost impossible to predict a certain % as looking crap on all devices because of this. For example, one DVD done at 50% may look sensational on a 13" TV yet it will more than likely look crap on a 2m projector screen. Then you can get pixelation on DVDs done at 80% if the original DVD only just used enough bitrate to start with.
    If in doubt, Google it.
