I just read about the new Mini DVD format that Warner Brothers is using to release films in and the players that play them. Are we able to make those yet? Can we use those Mini DVDs they use in camcorders or use Mini CDs and lower compression? Is there a source for the codecs, info, etc.? Thanks!!

  2. Check the Warner Brothers web site:

    http://www.warnervideo.com/minidvd/files/home.html

They say "Mini-DVD plays in full-size DVD players. You can play your Mini-DVD in your home player and get the same great quality you're used to on a regular DVD"

Sounds like standard DVD compliant authoring on on a smaller disc, at a lower bitrate. "..same great quality..." is rather subjective.

I just don't see the appeal.

The 3 cm small disk is used in DVDRW video cameras like the Sony DVR 092. Also, Walmart has a tiny portable player with screen that can read those for about $100.

  5. Yeah..Ive had some 3" DVD-Rs..nothing amazing..just a bit gimmicky, unless space is at a premium..i.e camcorders.

You used to get Cd singles released on 3" CDs a few years back, again no real reason for it.

I've seen those at Sam's Club. They are actually Dual Layer 3" DVD's. So the picture quality is going to be better than if they made 3" Single Layer DVD's. I guess the capacity in Dual Layer form is somewhere close to 3GB, but I haven't bought one so don't know for sure.

For example while 5" single layer DVD's are 4.38GB per layer, the 5" dual layer are 3.98GB per layer. Isn't there something similar for dual layer 3" DVD's? As I said before, I've never got hold of any 3" dual layers, so I'm curious to know what their capacity is.
