  1. OK, I have used this process many times with great results. For some reason, this particular MPEG is giving me issues. I'll describe my process:

I am converting sporting events to DVD. I first convert from VCR to my stand-alone DVD recorder. I typically use 3 DVD-RW's to convert a game (usually football). I then rip the 3 DVD-RW's to my PC into 3 seperate .vob files, one for each DVD-RW using DVD Decryptor. Then, I use MPEG2VCR to edit and create 2 seperate MPEG files, for each half of the game. I import the MPEG into Adobe Encoreand create menu. Then, I create a DVD folder, then use DVD Shrink to skrink and burn the DVD with Decryptor again.

No problems with this process. However, with this one particular MPEG, Encore wants to encode it before it creates the DVD folder. When I try to select "Don't Transcode", it is greyed out.

Any ideas? Again, this process has worked many times before.

    Thanks for the help, guys!

Have you compared this file to your others to see if it is identical? Chances are the file is different and/or doesn't meat DVD spec.

  3. Well, the actual file is different because it is a different game. The first MPEG (first half of football game) is fine, but the second one is not. They were created the exact same way in MPEG2VCR.

I didn't mean different as in different content. I meant resolution or bitrate, or possibly even audio.

  5. Oh! Sorry about that.

Hmmm, not positive. Is there an easy way to compare? Before I save the MPEG in MPEG2VCR, I leave all of the settings alone. The default it DVD quality.

  6. Just as an update...

I cut the second MPEG into 2 seperate MPEG's, one for each quarter. The 3rd quarter MPEG loaded fine and didn't need trandcoded. The 4th quarter MPEG did. The 3rd quarter one was listed as MPEG in Encore, but the 4th quarter one was listed as VIDEO FILE in Encore.

Could there be something in the video itself that is throwing off Encore? Or maybe the original burn to DVD+RW?

    Thanks!

Use gspot to open the videos. It will give you the specs.

Probably not. It seems that MPEG-VCR is doing something to the files and namely to the second part during the spliting. Might be incorect header or something. Try to use another cutter-joiner.

  9. Interesting. But why would it only do that for this one particular MPEG? It's been flawless up until now. As I said earlier, I split that second MPEG into 2 parts, and the first part worked. I'm wondering if I should make the first part of that split 3/4 of the size and try to add that to Encore?

I'm really lost on this one.

  10. Issue resolved!

All I did was re-transfer from VCR to DVD+RW, re-edited, and it imported correctly into Encore.

    Go figure!

    Thanks again!
