  1. Was there a step missed here? I was trying to help another through another forum to turn their movie from PAL to NTSC. I had them do the following.

    1) Use DVD shrink to backup movie only in one large VOB file.
    2) Rename the VOB to have an MPG extension (SVCD2DVD will not work with VOB format)
    3) Run the file through SVCD 2DVD demo (latest version) after clicking the check marks "Convert PAL to NTSC" and "Use Pulldown"

He is aware this method will not convert the entire movie since it is only the demo. The result was a playable VOB set but still in PAL format. Why did this not get changed to NTSC? I use this program myself constantly but have never tried it they way I had this guy try.

--Correction. He ran a PAL Divix through the program

So it was a vanilla PAL divx avi? Can you get him to email me the log or yourself?

  3. He did say the Divx was 5 years old. I will see if he can figure out how to get the log file. I will also give your E-mail or at least tell him where it can be found.

  4. I am posting back quickly because I have had a response from this person using the demo. I already asked him to make sure his CODECS are properly installed. But he gave this list which I find interesting. He mentions audio slightly off sync. I use the registered version and I to experience slight audio off sync. by 1/4 a second off. I use your program mainly for Xvid PAL to VOB NTSC. Here is his post to me:

yea i have all my codecs installed perfectly, first i tried playing it on my tv dvd player and it acts the same way as if id put a pal dvd in...then i named one of the vobs to mpg and fed it back to the program and on the right hand side it gives u the information for the file and it says PAL format....i also noticed the sound was a bit off sync so im going to reencode it tonight with no programs running to make sure nothing disturbs it but im sure it should have stuff come out ntsc even if it did a bad job.

edit: next time il also feed it into nero express and c if it tells me its PAL also...but if it didnt play on my dvd player (with dvd-rs i know worked on it before) then theres really no point cuz the whole reason im doing this is to watch my old movies on my tv

    --end his post---

He will be sending me his log file through the ather forum. I will then send it to you once I get it.

Ok. First, codecs are not used at all so it doesn't matter what he has installed. When it comes to a/v sync: in the case of avi files this will only happen if there are errors in the avi....

The main issue here is the non conversion from PAL to NTSC... Lets see what the log shows.

  7. OK I have sent the log file over to you. Doesn't really look like it tried to convert but he insists that he checked the box to make it do so.

I think your mate discovered a bug in that build of the demo. The bug is as follows: "If you have 'merge titles' checked and 'pal2ntsc' checked and you have only ONE asset then pal to ntsc doesn't complete"

It has been fixed in the latest buld but not in the demo yet. Please tell your mate to uncheck the "merge Titles" and try again - it should work fine thereafter.

il try a PAL dvd i have soon to c if the quality is acceptable.
