one or more codecs not found

I am trying to convert a mpg file to wmv for webpage embeddgin.
I am using the windows media encorder 9 to attempt this.
however i keep getting a error saying one or more codecs required to open this content could not be found.

I can play mpg files. I can play wmv files. the error doesn't say which codec is missing nor does the error log. I have these types of errors.
BIll GET THE ERROR MESSAGES MORE COMPLETE !!

I am not sure were to start looking. I have a feeling its the mpg file but not sure.

any help appreciated.

Use AVIcodec or Gspot to see what codecs are needed.

I was able to load up a avi file and covert w/o any issues.

RUnning GSPOT on the mpg file says:
File is MPEG
video codec
4cc N/A

Stream Type and A/V Interleave
type video/mpeg
IMRR n.a
I/L n.a

when I run the render Iget
Video Src Type and Audio is MPEG 1 Payload

video path (S) Ligos MPeg Splitter > Ligos MPEG Video Decoder > R
audio path same Ligos Mpeg audio decoder > R

rendering successful direct show claims to be able to play file
