After DVD Shrink movie is still to big !

I used DVD Shrink and the size was brought down to 4.35GB but when I tried to use Nero to burn onto a brand new DVD+R (4.7GB) I get the message that the files are to large for the disc! Any suggestions?

You might try going to a custom compression setting instead of the default. You can take it down a couple of more percent and that will get you on the disk without losing very much in the way of quality. You also can eliminate all but one audio option to reduce size.

Have you ever considered using DVDdecrypter to burn your discs with ?

That is what I use to burn my disc after using shrink, I have used it with both +/- discs and never had that problem and never had to set a custom DVD size or recompress either.

Give it a go, many people swear by this program for burning and I believe it will give you better results than Nero.

Yes - DVDShrink can leave its output too big to fit according to some burning engine programs.
Your best bet is to not push the outer limit of the resulting file sizes. Stay just a little under what Shrink thinks is ok.

You can set the target file size in DVDShrink. When this has happened to me, I reset the size a bit smaller and run through shrink again. Nyah Levi

Maybe you could try clonedvd, it does all the steps by itself, you just have to insert the original, then the blank... tah dah!!

Are you getting this 'Too Big' message from nero when trying to burn ?

If so forget that program and try DVDdecrypter to burn as I mentioned previously, I bet this cures your problem !

I believe if you're running windows 98 you are limited to around 2GB so maybe that's the problem.

You can use DVDdecrypter to burn from the hard drive, just convert whatever you are trying to burn into an ISO image using ImgTool Classic and burn the image with DVDdecrypter in ISO Write mode.

What is your DVD writer? It sounds like you are trying to write a DVD on a CD writer. No software will work if the drive reports that it is either full or not writable.

Are you sure you selected a DVD to burn instead of a CD? Also, if you're using Nero, try using a different template if you're positive you have a DVD burner and are using a DVD template. I.E., if you're using a DVD-Video template, use a UDF/ISO template and just add the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. THere is an option one of the pages, I belive it's under the Multisession, with a chekcbox that says "Force DVD compatibility, Required for X-Box".

I think thevoelk is on to something here. I'm sitting here at work and don't have Nero installed here, but I hope the original poster realizes that Nero doesn't automatically select the DVD writer as the default writing device. The DVD writer is also a CD writer and a CD may have been the last thing burned with Nero, so in effect, Nero thinks you're trying to write a 4GB file onto a max 700mb CDR(W) and it throws up saying it's too big. I think you likely just need to check to make sure your recorder is listed as the DVD instead of a CD device.

Also, if you have a newer drive you'll need to update Nero to see it. Not sure why, but my LG 4163 was only detected as a CD-RW until I put the latest version (at the time) of Nero on my workstation. I added my Pioneer 109, and it was detected fine, even though Nero said it wasn't supposed to be. Go figure.

The file size limitation for a fat32 OS is 4GB's. Not 2GB's.
