  1. Hello I was wondering about something considering Mpeg2 audio on dvd's made from Mpeg2 files from the Hauppauge Pvr 250 card. I have been making dvd's on my Panasonic DMR e55 but the unit does not like Taiyo Yuden 8x media cause it gave me over 20 plus coasters and they are genuine Ty discs and are not fake. The Panasonic unit makes nice dvd's but with the higher speed media replacing the 4x media in stores my unit is pretty much done for in making dvd's and all I have is Ritek Ridata 4x media but I don't know the quality of Ritek over long term such as still working a year or so from now. Ok anyways I have a Nec 3520 burner and if I start using my Pvr 250 card to capture video and put them on dvd they will be made with Mpeg 2 audio and not AC3 and I am wondering will they still play on most if not all dvd players that play dvd-r's? And will they play on future blu ray players as well with that kind of audio? Is there that much of a difference in the compatability between the two different types of audio. I am thinking of just using my computer instead of my panasonic since I still have over 100 Ty discs left to use and they should be good. Please if anyone has used the Hauppauge( I know many has) and have stuck with the Mpeg2 audio does it work on just about any machine. I am in the US and I know that Mpeg2 audio is not a regular dvd format like it is over in the UK. Thanks for any help.

  2. I have 3 cheap players, and the Hauppauge audio (mpeg-1 layer 2, aka mp2) works fine.

    Hi,

I can vouch for the wintv pvr 250 as well. I'm in Michigan and I can play mine on two or three different models at least. The home copies I've given to some friends haven't had problems either.

As for the next gen players there shouldn't be a problem since they'll be backward compatible with current dvd standards. That should mean all current technology will work with them.
