  1. I have my pc hooked up to my tv through DVI and was just wondering if their was a certain software that was better for playback of media (ie dvd's). I beleive software dvd players de-interlace on the fly for playback on computer monitors, but this would be unnecesary as it is being played on a TV. I see in windvd their is no way to disable the deinterlacing (at least on my version) and I was wondering if anyone of you HTPC owners had something to add on this subject.

I mostly use Zoom player to play video from the computer to the video projector. It has a lot of adjustments and you can use presets once you have it set for your system. The pay version ($20US) can also play DVDs. It does have a switch for interlace, but I don't recall ever using it.

VLC Media Player is good if you don't have all the codecs already. It also has an interlace adjustment.

If I'm just playing a DVD, I use the settop player.

Either one is a good choice for computer to TV monitor. They have many more adjustments than WinDVD or PowerDVD. They can be a little intimidating to set up, but with the presets you should be able to find the best combination of settings for your system.

  3. I will give VLC a try. I wonder what those pvr software packages (mce2005, gbpvr etc) do as far as interlacing is concerned.
