    What is your graphic card?
Have you tried any software dvd players at all?

I would test mplayer (together with some gui ).

  4. If your video card supports DXVA, I would go with the Nvidia PureVideo. It's not free but it's the best one I've found. And I've tried just about all of them.

Although, that sounds like an older card? It may not support DXVA.

Diamond Viper V330 ... dose that bring back some memories ... I had a diamond monster , 32mb , fusion drivers ... what a brute

    Forget it

Its really too slow to playback dvds at a rate that will not produce stuttering .

They used to make a pci card , years ago , that allowed slower ended systems to playback dvds in real time , but there almost extinct ... ebay would be your best bet in finding one of them now ... just dont recall it by name off hand ... its way back .

Once you have that , you then need to deal with the issue of dvd playback software that might go a little easier on the system , and not be a hog on resources .

Koolplaya + freedvdcodec (its out there) + ac3filters ...and away you go ... how fast , would be a guess ... not fast enough I suspect .

Check your motherboard for cpu's supported , you might find it can support ... anywhere near 800mhz cpu would be fine ... again ... ebay for that ... simple process provided the socket type is correct .

Hopefully you might beable to fit a p3 800mhz cpu ... that'll give it new life , and some thump ... and if so , you can forget looking for that pci card thingy I mentioned before ... you wont need it .
