TMPGEnc can be tweaked to make MPEGs that match Panasonic's MPEGs. All Panasonic does is soften block noise automatically, and doesn't let you disable it.

  8. Unfortunately Panasonic needs an update, and TMPGEnc has it

baker, it is your subjectiv opinion and that is OK. You can only compare TMPG and PWI, if you make a VCD. TMPG can do a lot more. It is simply a matter of taste, whether some one prefer PWI or TMPG.
You asked for a vote, you got it (some very experienced guys gave you the vote). Do you think, all these guys are wrong?

TMPGEnc is better on my wallet and is what I am now familiar with. I started on this site just as the Japanese version was released and I had to have the translator file. I started down that path because of price. I get good results so if it's not broke don't switch.

I have to agree I understand y people say tmpegenc is better.
more options, more speed, mpeg 2 encoding E.T.C But for a standard vcd you just can't beat panasonic. Well I enjoyed this vote, I will still use panasonic of course but will on occasion use tmpegenc.

A happy with his final decision,

  13. Panasonic creates blurry and soft VCD's and does not have the crispness and sharpness of Tmpgenc...

Well, but TMPG encoded MPEG look "blocky" sometimes. I never noticed that, when I used PWI. As mentioned, it's a matter of personal taste.
