    Check out the ILO DVDR04, and the DVDHDR04, if you want macrovision-free, region-free, and one extra recording mode. But buy one, soon, if you do: They are being phased out by the DVDR05, which, to ME, is an inferior unit.

    LiteOn LVW-5001 (or any of the 5000 series)

    Below are clones of the 5001:

    Daytek DVR-P30
    ILO DVDR04
    Gateway AR-230

    Hacks are available to make these recorders region free, ignore copy protections, and enable a 3 hour recording mode.

    The good hackable DVD Recorder means it is cheap but can play and record multi formats with the region and microvision free.

    Youu will be hard pressed to find a DVD recoerder that is both A) Multiformat, and B) Cheap, let alone hackable. Alas, we can't have it all.

    I dont know of any hackable recorders other than the ilo/liteon and their clones, are there any?

    Why do you want one? You could also just get a DVR from your cable company for $10 per month, prices of dvd recorders fall about that much per month.
