  1. I have a film file and for some reason the video stream wont play

If I open it in either my RealPlayer or Windows player I get the audio but the video seems corrupt (all I get is a blank screen with some pixelated noise at the top), this is strange because the video DID play when I last tried it about two months ago

I also have a couple of other files that are behaving in the same manner, they too are of the DX50 type, as listed below by GSpot:

    video src type: 4cc: DX50 audio src: MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)

I have installed Kopies Xvid codec but to no avail

    Anyone???

  3. Or maybe you haven't checked DX 50 4cc in the XivD decoder options. I really don't know if it's better to use the original decoder, or the XivD's one. I use DivX to decode DX 50, but both of them are MPEG-4, there aren't many difference.

Mate, where would I find the decoder options?

Are we talking about kopeis build that I have just installed?

Also, I have the ffdshow installed, is there anything specific I am meant to have checked in that?

Tried ffdshow? But in all honesty - Neither RealPlayer nor WMP is any good at DivX playback... (or anything else)

According to Gspot I have four compatible codecs installed:

    ffdshow Mpeg4 video decoder

    DivX decoder filter

    Xvid MPEG4 video decoder

    DivX decoder filter

Direct show is also able to play the video

Also, when vieing the file as a thumbnail in my film folder the thumbnail picture is fine so how come when I try to open it I get nothing??

Yes, that's odd - if anything craps out, the thumbnail preview is gone. I'm at a loss, but should try a "real" (not Real! ) dedicated player like Playa or MediaPlayer Classic or ZoomPlayer or...

Matts, both files also open up in VirtualDubMod, so at least I know the files are not corrupt

Also, do you know how I can open them in Tmpgenc?, at the mopmen t all I get is the error message:

    D\FILENAMEHERE.avi cannot open or unsupported

Do I need to alter some settings or download something?

    Cheers

Up the directshow priority to top. Or, as I tend to do with stuff TMPGEnc has trouble with: Load it in VirtualDub (like you've done) and frameserve to TMPGEnc.

Upping the prioity sorted out the Tmpgenc problem, but I wouldnt mind learning how to 'frameserve', do you know of a tutorial on the subject??

Also, even though I can now open the two films in Tmpegenc they still have a messed up video, if anyone else here has any ideas please tell me

  13. Matts, I have just taught myself how to frameserve and IT WORKS

    Cheers for the suggestion

Scrap all your spyware players and get Media Player Classic as suggested above. You can play both realmedia and quicktime with the add-ons if you so choose to.
