  1. I have tried repeatedly to use dvddecypter, nero cd-dvd speed (to surface scan) and play the disc in three different drives, but yet the disc will apparently play in my DVD player. The other five scan just fine. Disc 2 does not seem to be scratched or marked in any way.

I am very puzzled. It is the first disc I have ever seen that will not play in the computer, but will in a DVD player.

  2. I know this may not exactly be news, but...

I believe I have found out why the disc will not rip. It has another form of copy protection called ARccOS which uses bad sectors and a modified IFO to bypass the bad sectors. This explains why it will play in a DVD player, but it cannot be ripped.

    Use LATEST DVD Decrypter.

Latest DVD Decrypter will rip any disc, including ones with Sony's ARccOS protection.

What version of DVD Decrypter do you have?

    You need to use 3.5.4.0

Describe exactly what error message you get with dvd decrypter. If possible, post a screenshot of the error.

I had the EXACT same problem with the very same disc...I was at my wits end.. it WOULD play in my Daewoo DVD Player.. but wouldn't in my computer,..and I tried SmartRipper, DVDDecrypter,,,anything to rip it.. but it was too stubborn. I finally decided that it couldn't be ripped.

THEN I decided to see if I could CAPTURE it with my ATI AIW card from the Daewoo DVD Player.. I hadn't realised; until then, that my Daewoo was a Macrovision FREE DVD Player !

I was able to back up that disc.. even though I captured it.. it turned out really well. I dunno; if nothing else will work, this may be what you'll have to do as well.

  9. I am not sure how I managed it, but I created an ISO from one of the earlier attempts on a set I returned because at the time I was convinced the disc was indeed bad. Unfortunately, I cannot burn dual layer discs yet. (I know it can be shrunk, but I want an exact backup.)

It was the later failed attempts that lead me to conclude there had to be some other copy protection.

Thanks for your confirmation of the problem disc. It struck me as very odd that S6 D2 would be bad in three different sets. I do know, however, arccos was not used before or after that disc, all of the others scanned clean.
