They main issue would be playback on a standalone player. For computer only playback you can get there with many formats.

For now you need to match the supported codecs on the player. The future looks bright for H.264 and RC-1 support.

Think you mean VC-1 (aka WMV9) for which last time I checked the future was somewhat in doubt due to MS not paying any of the other patent holders.

Should be possible in TMPGEnc if you set the bitrate accordingly. Check out some of the KDVD type templates. Don't expect great quality though.

If you encode to VCD specs, you can fit ~7 hrs of video on a DVD. Just select the VCD template, encode, then author with TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Or the low res DVD template.

  6. but whats all this i hear about that program tmpgenc xpress 3.0 being able to fit 10 hours of video by fitting in 60 frames per GOP or something like that?

is changing the bitrate the only way of putting on 10hrs of video?

    Yuh-huh.

Size = Running Time x Bitrate.

    so if size = 4480MB

and Running Time = 600 minutes

then your combined bitrate must be roughly 1000kbps.

I doubt very much if you could use anything but 352 X 240/288 and 2-Pass VBR to get anywhere near watchable results at these bitrates (assuming we're talking about MPEG-1/2 here).
    If in doubt, Google it.

What kind of results would the Half D1 and KDVD produce? I know they claim a lot of space, but never tried it that much.

For those kind of bitrates I would go for VCD res rather than half D1. I would still use some kind of low bitrate matrix though.
