  1. I have suddenly gotten several files that will not convert from AVI to MPEG correctly. Using TMPGenc and get message after choosing the source range invalid pointer operation. Eventually by moving the start frame up it no longer gives that message. Once the encoding process begins everything looks good for awhile and then suddenly I just get a black screen and after stopping the process and checking the file thru Media Player where the screen goes black there is still sound. This is happening way too often in my opinion so I would like to know if there is another good program to do avi to mpeg conversion and/or is there something different I could do in TMPGenc. I use vdub to get good audio quality. All of these files play in Medi Player just fine when I preview them before attempting the conversion. Thanks

Could also be VBR MP3 audio causing your black-screen problem - Use GSpot or AVICodec to check the type of audio in your source file or alternatively open the AVI in "regular" virtualdub and see if you get the "Virtualdub has detected an improper stream ......" message. If you have got VBR MP3, extract the audio to a WAV file using http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm and then specify this WAV as your audio source in TMPGEnc.
    If in doubt, Google it.
