I recently bought a Sony RDR HX-710. I am not that good at electronics but by using the guide I downloaded I was able connect my noos tv decoder and another dvd player. so i am using an s video cable and rca cables to connect player to recorder. It seems that I can copy dvds by using tv now. Basically recorder captures anything that is on tv.What I want to learn is, can I duplicate dvds using by these 2 devices? It has a built in harddisk. In the guide it says that I can not copy dvdvideos from its own dvd drive to its harddisk, so does anyone know how can I do that by using Panasonic player? thanks for all the help

This won't help you using your hardware but if you have a computer with a DVD burner, you can use DVD Decrypter .

No just that I never had a reason too use a recorder nor do I have one therefore I don't know. If it's copy protected.... no you can't unless there's a firmware hack or something similar for the recorder, your not going to find a consumer grade recorder that can copy protected DVD's out of the box. I'm sure there are plenty that can copy a disc if it is not protected, depends on it's features. Try googling your model with the serch term firmware in it. If it has a HD technically there is no reason why it shouldn't.

You recorder may have a hack available to change the way it operates, the firmware tells the recorder how to operate. For example your recorder may be an exact duplicate of one that can do that but costs more for that feature. Instead of producing two recorders they just change the firmware which is less expensive for them. if you search around you may be able to find one a updated/hacked version of the firmware to add tht feature to your recorder. Besdide that I don't think there's any other way, it either does or doesn't. It does have it's pitfalls because you could possibly render it inoperative.
