  1. hello, this is probably a stupid question. can you capture video from a digital camcorder to pc using a usb cable? my dilemma is i'm overseas in iraq and the computers i work on don't have a fire wire port on them.

    Some of them have that feature but it only produces a very low quality video designed for web use. Simialr to what you would expect from a web cam.

    Creative has a capture USB2 card that will convert DV to MPEG2 on the fly and it will capture your movie through USB2. Check it out: Creative Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor

    Depends on the make of your DV camcorder. My JVC supports both USB and 1394 streaming. I can control the DV thro USB and streaming speed is no difference to a 1394 connection. However, 3rd party software may be a little behind in supporting full usb streaming.
