Greetings - I purchased a Pioneer DVR-210 from Costco, and so far I have had good results recording to DVD-R media. I've used BeAll and Ritek media with great results.
Can someone please recommend which brands and type of rewritable media that works with the external Pinoneer DVR-210 (internal DVR-A106) ?? I am trying to keep costs down.
I ordered a pack of (Ritek) Ridata 4x DVD-RW and the Pioneer DVR-210 does not recognize them at all. I tried multiple disks and tried them in my SONY DRU-530A and they work just fine, so there is nothing wrong with the disks.
Thanks in advance.

The Pioneer manual for the 520 says:
"Older models of DVD recorders and DVD writers may
reject DVD-RW Ver. 1.2 / 4x discs."
The 210 is listed as one of thel recorders which can not record on 1.2/4x discs (although it can play them).
I don't know if all 4x disks are ver. 1.2, but if you're trying to use 4x RWs in the 210 they're not going to work no matter what brand/media ID you use. -
What kind of DVD-RW disks do I need to buy? What specifications should I look for?
The disks I purchased claim to be version 1.1 with a recording speed 1x-4x. I copied the following from the description on the meritline page I ordered the disks from:
http://www.meritline.com/ritek-dvd-rw-dvdrw-blank-media-4x-ridata-branded.html
Ritek Ridata G04 4X DVD-RW Blank Media (Ridata Branded) 4.7GB DVDRW Rewritable Discs
# Media Recording Speed: 1X - 4X
# Book version: DVD Specifications for Re-recordable Disc Version 1.1
The Pioneer manual for the DVR-210 reads:
"... It is compatible with DVD-RW Ver 1.1 and Ver 1.1/2x, and DVD-R Ver. 2.0 and Ver 2.0 / 4x."
Unfortunately I bought them as part of another order over 60 days ago and had not needed them on the Pioneer until today, so I can't return them.
If the Pioneer won't record on any DVD-RW disks, then I will return the recorder.
Frustrated... -

I don't even know there are retailers still selling the Pioneer DVR-210 model. Get a DVR-220/225 model instead, and it should be able to use your 4X DVD-RW media. -

Apparently, meritline has a typo.
From the information on the web site, apparently version 1.1 correlates to write speed of 2x and 1.2 (Rev 2) to 4x speed. Apparently, they are not backwards compatible?
Many thanks for all the useful information. -
I just ordered the same Ritek 4X DVD-RW discs from Meritline and expect them Friday. I have a Pioneer DVR-420H which I think has the same burner as the 220. I will let you know if the discs are usable in the 420 and if they can be used at 4x.

I am curious to know what your results are. The number on the pack of disks I got was 103-021-025. Never did get them to work...
