i wondered if anybody has the same problem as me or can suggest a solution other then buying a new burner. i have had a liteon 1633s burner for a few months, i know it is a fussy drive, it is very particular about what media it uses, but that is for burning.
my problem is this, i have a philips standalone dvd recorder, i record tv to dvd+rw as i like to be able to edit it on the disc if i make a mistake i can split titles on the disc and delete etc. once i have recorded and edited on the disc i put the dvd+rw into my liton burner and rip it, sometimes using dvddecryptor and sometimes using just copy and paste the video ts folder, then burn to my chosen media. the problem really is when i go to reuse that dvd+rw media, i put it back in the philips recorder and for some reason the rewrite property of the dvd+rw is gone and it will not delete. the menu recognises it as a write once disc that has already been written to. my only thought can be the burner is doing something to the disc that makes it unwriteable again. it does it to more than one make of dvd+rw disc as i tried several. before this i was using a nec 1300a dvd burner and never had any such problems. i use windows xp pro with service pack 1.

  2. Check your Philips user guide. There is a solution for unusable medias. They will format while recording.

If all you're using your liteon drive for is ripping or copying and pasting the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive, then your problem isn't with your liteon IMO because this won't change any of the disc properties at all.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Try erasing it with your liteon and see what the recorder says then.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

i have reformatted using the liteon drive and when i put them back into the dvd recorder it says no disc is present. also i did read the manual for the philips recorder that suggests another way of wiping a disc that has a read error that was put it in the open tray and hold clear button down until tray shuts. i did this with a few discs and some of them allowed me to re record on them and some still kept saying the disc was not present.
