  1. I'm planning to buy this player.
However, it still isn't clear to me whether this player support DTS or not.
This function is not mentioned in the adverts.

I've also read some issues about "Cannot encode DTS" being displayed when trying to play DTS tracks on DVD-movies. On the other hand, people claim that the player can play DTS and that they simply click on 'OK' to make the error message disapear. At the same time I've even heard that the latest (or one or the more recent) FirmWare updates make this message disapear.

Can anyone confirm the DTS support and the mentioned FirmWare fix being out?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Yes I can. DTS is supported before update with a bogus error message which goes away after the firmware update.
Still a few bugs in the system...

That's all I have to know.
I'm off to store to buy it.
    Cheers to you, mate!

  5. Are there any non-official firmware floating about that improves the playback of Xvid on this machine? (I was shocked when it actually played the majority of xvid titles I have since it does not have xvid support in any documentation).

My machine is currently updated with the 11th June firmware, but I am still having horrid playback on a certain few titles which playback fine on my PC. The playback is very badly messed up in colour, which is both blocky and garish.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  6. delta, i have this prob too, and i fix it by going into the video options and switching between ntsc and multi.

  7. Unless I'm mistaken this player does not "decode" DTS. It can, however, pass the signal through to the digital output. If it doesn't "decode" then it doesn't "support". Also there is no DTS logo on it.

  8. lordyu is right, it will only play DTS through a DTS capable reciever. It you are hooking it up directly to a TV, DTS tracks won't play. Also the video quality on the machine is good but not great. But for $70, I guess you can't complain.

I was under the impression that the great majority of players dont "decode" dts but than almost everyone who cares has a receiver that does. so all you need is read and pass through.

Is there much point to decoding dts in the dvd player?

I agree with aero but if I misled the original poster I am sorry.

Has anyone here tried playing an avi file muxed with DTS (according to G-Spot this is the audio - MEDIA_SUBTYPE_DTS (0x2001) Dolby Laboratories, Inc)? I tried it today but I don't get any audio but I can play DVDs with DTS audio no problem through my receiver.

Aero - actually there is. In my case, I have a cheap, but perfectly functional home theatre system that can't decode DTS at all. A DTS decoding player would be a real boon to me. To hear DTS, I'm forced to buy a new amplifier (anything decent that can decode DTS will cost about $400 or more) and maybe even new speakers.
