  1. Greetings:

I have two DVD double layer disks set of a broadway show like. After I use the latest version 3.5.4.0 (note v 3.5.2.0 is unable to read the disc) of DVDDecryptor to extract Disc 1 onto my hd and want to shrink it to a DVD+R single layer using DVDShrink 3.2.0.15 on 3 machine, 1st one equiped with a BENQ DW800A (#1), 2nd with NEC ND-3500AG (#2) and 3rd one with NEC ND-6500A. All three display the message " DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid data in file "...:\DVD_VIDEO|VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB".
So my next attempt is to use Nero Ultra Ed. 6.6 Express to burn the set of files extracted from DVDdecryptor onto a Ritek and Memorex 2.4X DL DVD+R. Both media fail on the machine #2 & #3. Fortunately, it works on the machine #1.
Could someone please shed some light for what possible reason, DVD Shrink is unable to shrink and BenQ drive seems the only one to be able to burn this project?

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar issues in the past. I've never spent the time trying to burn the images when Shrink says there are errors in the file.

For me it has always been an issue of dirty or scratched discs. I just clean the disc and rip it again with Decryptor. It usually works fine the 2nd time.

in my case the DVD is not sratch at all. It's brand new. I just bought it.

I am curious to know what the BenQ has and the NEC hasn't.

brand new disks doesn't necessarily rule out mastering errors and faults. I've had bad commercial disks before.

If the disk has mastering errors or defect then should DVD Decryptor report at least some errors? But it doesn't. It rip the disk smoothly with no errors and no skip files.

Have you tried ripping it a 2nd time? I didn't get any errors from Decryptor with my problems either. The only indication of any problem was when dvdshrink said the vob's were invalid. After ripping it again, everything worked normally.

As a side note, I also have a flaky HD in the box I use for ripping movies, which sometimes causes my rips to fail.

  7. thanks, Kryspi, for bringing in additional suggestion.

Yes, I did try rip several times and it shows exactly the same message. My HD is brand new as well.

    Well, it's another unsolved mistery.

  8. Try vob blanker on the ripped files. You can try to load the entire ripped dvd and just process it, this may remove the blank spots that DVD Shrink is choking on. If that doesn't work, load iy into VOB Blanker again and try looking at each section, blanking anything that doesn'y look right in preview. This work a majority of the time. Nyah Levi
