    Hi,

I just built a new system amd64 3500+ asus a8v-e deluxe mobo, two 512 corsair value select, xfx geforce 6600, soundblaster live bottom of the line sound card $29, 250g WD sata, xp pro w sp 2, 2 nec352a dvd burner.

my mobo had a built in realtek sound board, and i just installed my soundblaster live last night and connected the audio of the primary nec352a to the soundblaster souncard last night, i put in a cd and sounded well, when i put a dvd i am able to watch it with power dvd but there is no sound? What am i doing wrong? At first when i put the dvd it wouldn't let me play it on windows real player, reason being no decoder installed, i downloaded dvd decrypter and played it on powerdvd and it started playing but no sound whatsoever. Please help.

  2. question 1 did you disable your built in sound in bios?

if no, that could be causeing problems.

second download mplayerc and try playing dvd with that.

3rd open your sound options:right click on sound icon in bottom right of screen and click prperties or w/e and make sure your aux or cdin or w/e are not muted, just unmute them all for now till u find which ones u need.

let me know if that helps

Thanks for the suggestions, I fixed the problem last night after i installed windvd5, the power dvd i was using did not have a dts sound decoder. Thanks again. Another question related to this is that my soundcard only have 1 aux in that i connected my primary dvd burner, i want to add sound to my secondary dvd burner as well, is there some type of dual audio cable i can use to connect both of them in my soundcard? or any other suggestions? thanks

You don't have to connect a cable from your DVD drives to the sound card. Just right click on the dvd rom drive in question and select properties. Under one of the tabs there is check box to enable playback of digital audio. Check this box. This way the audio is transmitted digitally through your IDE bus and not via analog through your soundcard.

  5. IF you want to use the anolog sound connection from the drive there are splitters to allow attaching both drives to the sound cards one input.
    Or just try smearbrick's advice.
Some older drives didn't have digital sound extraction or older sound cards only had one input on the inside.
