It's the latest version(?) I don't want to be lumbered with the older one that doesn't produce 100% compliant files.

  4. Bullshit.
Everything made after 1998 makes totally compliant files.
The original ancient versions had some trouble. People were finding that they couldn't be edited in a standard NLE. This was resolved in early 1998 (or thereabouts).
If it's new, in a box, it'll work.

I have an old 48011 Rev G510 (ca. 1999) that works perfectly.

Forgot to mention i'm thinking of getting one from an Ebay seller so it might not be bullshit, I could get lumbered with one of the old ones. Thanks for the advice anyway, much appreciated.

  6. Ah, when buying from ebay, get them to quote you the exact model and rev number, written (on a sticker) right on the card.
You can then pop over to www.shspvr.com and find out just exactly what it is.
