  1. Hey folks....any help would be geat.

I have an older PC lying around (like 266mhz) that I just keep getting "No signal" when I turn it on. I pretty much stripped it all the way down to just the motherboard and video card, and still get "no signal" on the monitor. I've tried 3 different videocards, 2 different harddrives, different RAM and still no luck.

    ANY help would be great!

    Thanks!

About all that's left is the mobo / CPU. When's the last time that system POSTed?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  3. Sorry, I'm not sure what POSTed means

What's interesting is that the cd-rom wasnt' opening either, but it worked in another PC. It's almost like something is dead from the power supply. But I can hear the harddrive spinning....so maybe some kind of power problem maybe?

  4. Tried a different monitor?

POST stands for power on self test and is done by the BIOS memory chip found on most all MoBo's. Without display output you can't see it though.

Sounds like power problem if the cd tray wouldn't open.

When POST passes you should hear a single beep, so even if you aren't seeing anything, you should at least hear it.

I agree with, pfh. Try a different monitor, but also try a different video cable as well.

  6. Could be the power supply. You get lights & things but no display on the monitor.

I too have this same prob.
the dvd writer plus dvd rom light up, the hard drive is spinning, the trays open and close, but no picture on monitor.
I have tried diff. monitors, but to no avail, and tried diff. graphics cards. Nothing is helping.
Do i take everything apart and start again?, Like build it from scratch?
it's an old 800mhz processor, 500mb Ram with dvd RW, dvd rom, 40gb hard drive and has not given me any problems 'till some one changed the graphics card on me, but then gave the original one back (which is in it now)!

Any suggestions would be great, thnx in advance.
