OK, I finally got my DVD-VR discs working in the PC, now all I need is is software so I can snip out the commercials. Can someone point me in the right direction? The ones I have tried like Nero and WinDVD don't seem to have this feature. I'm not concerned with menus or anything extra, I just want to cut out the commercials and burn the file to a DVD. TMPGenc seems popular, will this do the trick?

Try Cuttermaran I find it works great, and the Price is even better..FREE.
Tmpgenc can work,What version you have? -
Most editing apps will do it but not efficiently. Cutteman is good. I can chop pretty fast using keyboard commands with ULead Video Studio 8's "Multi-trim" feature. Takes about 4-5 min of editing for a typical hour show. Then the MPeg2 encode needs to be done.

I think Womble Mpeg Video Wizard does a great job of cutting out commercials. It takes awhile to learn how to use the program, but it is worth the effort. If you already have the files in Mpeg2 format, you needn't worry about re-encoding. On top of that there is a nifty title feature built into the program as well.
In the program Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6 you can edit out comercials as well. -
Thank you for the responses. I just DL'd the latest TMPGenc trialware, but I will give the others a try as well.
Is there any loss in quality after using these programs? (The DVD's are recorded in 1 hour mode). -

It is for me, I have zero luck with these things but TMPGenc worked great with my DVD-VR and burned a nice DVD with very good quality and fast too AND it was recognized on ALL my DVD players, something I've had trouble with using other software (using T/Y DVD-R's). SO nice, I can now burn my classic boxing matches with NO commercials! I am buying this software.
One more question though: Am I correct in assuming that if I want to burn two hours on a disc, I need the DVD+RW burned at two hours through the recorder? Can't change it through the program right? -
I have been using Videoredo for the last few months for cutting commercials and it works great! It is mpeg frame accurate and very fast.
In fact if you have multiple files that you want to cut commercials from you can batch them and use a feature called Ad Detective. Ad Detective
does a pretty good job of finding the commercials. You will still need to make the actual cuts.
I do NOT recommend using Ulead Video Studio 8 for cutting and trimming
mpeg files because it is NOT frame accurate and will lead to audo sync
issues. VS8 is great for avi cutting and trimming but not for mpeg!bits -
I made a couple video tutorials on it. I like dvd author pro by tmpge. never noticed any loss but I am usually dealing with straight dvd video already.
