  1. I've had the lvw-5005 for about 5 months now. It's given me lots of problems, but I've managed to fix/live with all of them. However, lately it's been causing one type of disk (not all the time, maybe 1 in 10 burns) to become unreadable. When placed in the unit, it will freeze up (and other dvd players will think it's a blank disk).

However, my gsa-4120 in my computer can read the disk, albeit with errors. I ran a nero cd/dvd scan on it, it shows about 50% of the disk as being 'unreadable'. DVD decrypter shows an i/o error during 'parsing ifo files"

The disk itself is not the problem, since when erased it will return to normal. So basically, my questions are:

1: Is it possible to recover the shows recorded on the disk?
2: Is there a way to stop this from happening again?

I'm running the newest (as far as I know) firmware, 0098 hacked for 3 hour mode. Any suggestions? I know lordsmurf has experience with this unit...

  2. 1. Try ISOBuster to read out the disk content.
    2. Don't use paper labels. Buy better media.
A detailed description of the problematic media would be helpful (media code, printable media?).
