After reading a dvd the file is a big red blotch on the drive map when looking a fragged files in windows. Does this happen to anyone else? Everyone else?
I dont want to have to defrag my HD everytime I burn a dvd. Well, it does burn it fine, but to reach certain speeds I think that would be my only option.

Yeah, it happens. See if whichever program you're using to make it can pre-allocate the file.

Alternatively, do it on a second drive - anything you do with big files on your boot drive will end up fragmented due to the nature of windows.

Doesn't happen to me - I have a 200GB drive that I use for caps and for storing DVD Images and the like. I defrag it periodically (fortnightly or thereabouts), as well as reformat every now and again (quarterly or thereabouts).
    If in doubt, Google it.
