colour 'leakage' on avi clips

I've downloaded quite a few avi clips where a trail of colour begins to leak in from the bottom upwards.
The video quality is usually fine when focused on a 'still' subject, but as soon as the camera starts moving within the video, the colour leakage starts again.

I've tried them with windows media player, real player and divx player with the same results.

is this an avi problem or a codec problem?
can anybody help?

Sounds like either a codeo problem (update time) or corruption in the download.
