While I don't have a TiVo, I do have a DVR, I think they are pretty much the same thing.

I can tell you this much, once you have it, it is difficult to watch TV without it. When I go to my parents house and we are watching TV I'll miss something and I'll try to rewind theirs

I definitely think it's worth it.

The picture quality is just as clean and clear as it is with any other receiver.

If you are talking about quality as would be captured on your PC from the TiVo box, that would depend on the quality of the connection you have from receiver to capture card.

For me, my DVR runs out to a splicer, then from the splicer it runs into my computer room where it runs into a VCR and my capture card plugs into the VCR via RCA jacks. With this method I get quite a few horizontal lines. So if I record a movie on the DVR, to capture it to my PC I run a S-Video cable and it goes straight into my capture card.

I could run RCA cables but I don't have RCA cables that cover 32 feet, but I do have a 50ft S-Video cable.

In any event, if you connect the receiver to the capture card directly, you'll have the same quality as you would with any other capture.

I have a Dishnet PVR (before the DVR models) and I no longer watch live TV except once ina blue moon. I can't explain how much it rules.

Of course its only on the one TV, I've considered getting an actual TIVO for my computer room. So yes I'd say its worth it. Especially since the new one allows video extraction over your computer network.

I have the dual tuner dish network DVR/PVR (can someone explain the difference?) it is freakin' rules. Best of all, I don't have to pay a monthly service fee for the use. Downside was that the unit cost about $450.00. Oh well, 90 hours of recording time can't be beat!! (unless you have 120 hours of recording time) It does to TV what broadband did for the internet. It makes TV so much for flexible and enjoyable. If you want to watch a program that comes on at 6:00, wait until 6:15 to start watching. Then skip all of the commercials.

  9. I had a Tivo and gave it to my Brother in Law. I have a Panasonic DVD recorder with a hard drive. For me this is better. If I want some thing I can keep it on a DVD-R.

Plus I can edit out my TV commercials or a Tivo Box that has a DVD burn in it this is some thing you can not do.

No reason to hack a TIVO to get things off of it if you own a new one. The allow you to extract with their software.

Only on the Series 2 Tivo's. Not the Series 1.

    Just for clarity.
